Policy Manager
Lightstar has an immediate opening for a Policy Manager to support the ongoing development of our community solar portfolio across the United States, with a particular focus on the Midwest markets.
This role will be 100% remote, but will require in person meetings in Boston and other travel that is required to fulfill the government affairs and legislative functions of the job. Co-working space is available for employees who prefer a hybrid work environment. As Lightstar continues to grow, opportunities to develop unique skills will be available as well as opportunities for advancement.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and report on policy and regulatory matters on behalf of LSR in Midwest markets, live and developing.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for LSR to expand its strategic mission-driven market presence.
- Lead the Midwest market coordination and collaboration with other teams at LSR including Development, Marketing, Origination and Finance.
- Help cultivate and maintain strong relationships with policymakers, industry colleagues, organizations, community groups and other.
- Represent Lightstar in industry association activities, legislative hearings, and conferences.
- Analyze state and federal legislation, budgets and administrative rules as well as conduct research to develop and advance LSR’s market positions.
- Assist in advocacy for favorable policies for LSR and the solar industry more generally at the municipal, state, and federal levels.
- Prepare internal and external documents and presentations with support from Marketing team.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in Midwest and central solar or clean energy policy preferred.
- Solid understanding and passion for renewable energy and land conservation.
- Minimum 3-4 years of work experience in the solar or renewables industry in a policy or policy adjacent position such as development or origination.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities; able to analyze detailed policy language in multiple markets.
- Strong analytical and communication skills; fundamental knowledge of community solar revenue structures and designs preferred.
- Self-starter that can pick-up projects and activities quickly.
- Great energy and the ability to be flexible.

Paralegal
The Paralegal will collaborate with the Lightstar legal team in supporting all aspects of Lightstar’s business, including:
Responsibilities:
- Becoming familiar with Lightstar’s contract forms, such as for confidentiality, land options and leasing, project construction and procurement
- Managing company and project dataroom access and file organization
- Entity management including formations, foreign qualifications and annual reporting and filing compliance, as well as regular updating of org charts
- Some contract review and preparation of summary abstracts
- Financing, investment and M&A transactional support including closing checklist and deliverables management
- Interfacing with title companies on commitment review and policy updates, removal of exceptions, and recording of documents
- Assistance with company governance matters including preparation of board resolutions and consents
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 5 years of paralegal or similar legal support experience, preferably in the areas of renewable energy project development or real estate development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships and work well with cross-functional teams, including Development, Origination, Finance, Construction and Operations
- Impeccable organizational, time-management and multi-tasking skills
- Self-directed and effective in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint), Sharepoint and other filing or document management software
- Passion for solar energy or the renewable energy sector is a plus

Solar Design Engineer
Lightstar Renewables (LSR) has an immediate opening for a Design Engineer reporting to the Director of Engineering to support the ongoing development and construction of several solar generating portfolios focused on community solar and dual use.
The role is remote but will require in-person meetings and site visits from time to time. As LSR continues to grow, opportunities to develop unique skills will be available, as well as opportunities for advancement.
Responsibilities
- Develop preliminary solar site plan designs using CAD, or other design tools.
- Run PVsyst models for project development and construction support.
- Review engineering designs and documents for accuracy and provide recommendations for performance/cost optimization.
- Provide timely technical or relevant information necessary to meet internal processes or controls, including developing a summarized project EPC budget by reviewing and consolidating numbers from different sources.
- Initiate and coordinate the technical review process (including civil and electrical engineering, racking engineering, energy assessment, technology experts, permitting, etc.).
- Performing portions of the due diligence reviews, including technical impacts on the financial model (OPEX and CAPEX).
- Analyze information, identify problem resolutions, and recommend and implement corrective actions.
- Discuss and resolve technical issues with project developers and lenders/investors, including coordinating necessary input on such issues with the development team.
- Develop and write proposals for scopes of services related to due diligence work.
- As necessary, develop and negotiate sub-contractor, consultant, or engineering agreements, including safety plans, schedules, and scope of work required to fulfill project requirements.
- Support solar projects from development through construction, including helping to prepare documentation and answering questions as it relates to RFPs, manage and organize files appropriately for internal and external parties, and provide technical assistance for RFIs as they arise.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- 3+ years of solar engineering and development experience involving multiple MW+ scale solar installations.
- Educational solid credentials, including a bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, Electrical Engineering preferred.
- High attention to detail
- Impeccable time-management skills are a must to handle multiple projects simultaneously, including prioritizing, organizing, and planning effectively to meet all deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships and work well with cross-functional teams, including Origination, Development, Operations, and Finance.
- Self-directed and capable of working effectively in a highly dynamic, fast- paced environment.
- Strong computer skills and detailed knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and Microsoft Project; PV Syst; Autocad C3D; other solar project management or engineering software.
- Unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S.

- $90,000 – $110,000 base salary commensurate with level of technical knowledge, current/prior position experience, relevant industry exposure, and education or certification background
